Pastor's Weekly  Message

 Dear Church Family,

With the ending of the Olympics, the national focus shifted to politics and the national conventions.  The Democrats concluded their convention in Denver last night and the Republicans will begin their convention in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul next week.  The question can be asked "What should be the relationship of Christians to politics?"  The answers to that question are varied.  Some would say it should be an engaged relationship while others would say there should be no relationship.  What do you think?  With the election of a new president coming in November, this is an important issue for Christians to ponder.  Also, let me invite you to express your viewpoint on this subject by checking out the new Poll Question on our website.  Let's begin a discussion on this subject and I'll be writing more about in the days to come.

As we turn the corner into September, there are a number of things coming up on the church calendar.  Let me highlight a few of them:

On September 7 there will be a Missions Committee Meeting following the Sunday Service.  We appreciate those who have a heart for world missions and support of our missionaries.  Speaking of missionaries, Andrew & Harmony Lynch are missionary appointees with United World Missions to Estonia.  Presently, they are involved in raising their support.  If you haven't done so as yet, visit their website at www.estoniamission.com and you will gain an education on the nation of Estonia and the Lynch's heart for the people of this land.

Also, on September 7, there will be the annual Home Group Leadership Kick-Off Dessert.  It will take place in the Small Auditorium from 6:30-8:00p.m.  Our new Director of Home Group Ministry, Lloyd Taylor, will lead this meeting which is meant to bring our HG Leaders together for an important conversation as we launch the new HG Season.  Each HG Leader, Assistant Leader & Host is asked to bring a dessert to share.

On September 20 there will be two events.  The first is the Men's Breakfast which will meet at the regular time of 8:00a.m. at The Hangar Inn.  The second is the Walk/Run/Ride4US which will take place that day at Pt. Defiance.  You can register at www.4US.org to join the SHCC team.  Let me suggest you do so today as the registration fees go up on September 1.

I trust you all have a great Labor Day Weekend as we say goodbye to summer.  The summer months seemed to pass far too quickly.  In our service this Sunday, we will continue with our study of Colossians where will see the apostle Paul address some very practical issues that we all face in our everyday lives.  Plan to join us at our regular service time of 10:30a.m.

God bless you!  See you Sunday!

Pastor Mike Laramie
