GRACE GIVING /files/slideshow/_subpage/Offerings/The grace of giving.jpg

  • “Grace Giving” is a term that describes the giving of our financial resources to support the work of the Lord in the New Testament Era of Grace, also known as “The Church Age.”  The principles of grace giving teach that believers are to give in proportion to their means (Acts 11:29), regularly (1 Corinthians 16:2), as God has prospered them (1 Corinthians 16:2), as they have purposed in their hearts (2 Corinthians 9:7), cheerfully (2 Corinthians 9:7) and, even, sacrificially (2 Corinthians 8:3)!
  • Many believers believe that the portion of their giving should be at least the biblical “tithe” (“tithe” means tenth or 10%, Genesis 14:20) and that this portion is given as the “first fruits” of their labor to the Lord (Proverbs 3:9).   Giving of our financial resources to the Lord’s work helps us to remember to put God first in everything we do (Matthew 6:33) and to keep us free from the love of money (Hebrews 13:5).  We should keep in mind that everything we have ultimately belongs to the Lord and that we are stewards of what He has entrusted us with.  True giving is not done under compulsion, but out of an obedient heart that overflows with thanksgiving to God (2 Corinthians 9:8-15).                                                                                                                 May we all know the joy and blessing of such giving!

Ways to give your financial offerings to the Lord at SHCC:

1. Set up an automatic electronic fund transfer from your checking/bank account.
For those who are comfortable with electronic transfers from your bank, we encourage you to consider this option.  It is an easy way to stay current and faithful with your giving.   Also, this is helpful to the church since electronic transfers are easy to process and help to even out our cash flow so it is easier to cover our ongoing financial obligations and bills such as missions, salaries, outreach, mortgage payments, and utilities.  Further, with electronic transfer, 100% of your giving goes to the Lord’s work as usually there are no processing fees involved.

2. Put your cash/checks in the offering plate each Sunday

3. Mail your offering checks to the SHCC office

4. Give by credit/debit cards (on our website)

While we have made the use of credit/debit cards an option, we encourage the use of options 1-3 for the following reasons:

1.     With the use of credit/debit cards, there is a processing fee (usually 2-4% depending upon the card used) charged to the church.
2.     Although many in our church family manage the use of credit cards wisely and pay off their cards in full each month, others do not.  We do not want to encourage anyone to go into more credit card debt while at the same time paying interest on donations given to the church.

We trust that these options will be helpful to you as you exercise your stewardship of the funds with which God has entrusted you.  Ultimately, your giving is an act of worship and is between you and the Lord.  God bless you as you are a faithful steward of not only your time and talents, but also of your treasure!
